Environmentally friendly baskets and Eco-friendly packaging
So what's so good about our products?
Well, firstly, most are recyclable, re-useable, biodegradeable, sustainable and useful!
Our most popular items are our handmade wicker baskets which are primarily woven from willow. This is a very hardy, sustainable plant, which regrows twice a year. The willow is usually ready at around 16 weeks and the farmers harvest it by hand. Once the willow is cut it is skinned and cleaned before weaving and both our light and steamed wicker is coloured naturally by the sun. With an amazing level of craftsmanship and skill passed down through generations, it’s then woven by hand around wooden frames to form a basket. Once finished, it's ready for service and incredibly could be around for 50-or-so years! And this is all done without the use of machinery or large industrial factories. Remarkable for a product that has been around for thousands of years (remember, Moses was found in a basket) and is still fashionable today.
The paint we use on our Eco-Basket range is the most eco-friendly paint available and has received the highest accreditations. It has been awarded both the Euro Flower and the NAFF certification for its incredibly low emissions and vapours and its unbelievely low environmental impact. Our paint is also recommended by the Norwegian Asthma Society who impose the strictest guidelines for approval in the world. This paint is actually less harmful than make-up! And to give the best and most long-lasting finish, each basket is individually painted with a layer of undercoat and two layers of your chosen colour, leaving a beautiful, yet practical wipe clean surface. A superb accompaniment are our diverse range of linings including natural unbleached cotton, made specifically to fit our Eco-Baskets.
Our coloured shredded paper comes from Wiltshire and is completely biodegradable and 100% recyclable.
Our wood shred is even certified by the FSC! It's made from soft wood trees grown in totally sustainable UK forests, and this is also completely biodegradable and recyclable. And for every tree that is felled, at least two more are planted through careful stewardship.
Our leather hamper straps are manufactured in Wales.
Our Wooden Utensil range is handmade in Suffolk from Maple, Ash and Oak and commissioned from a local craftsman.
It’s important to us that we can follow our supply chain to the top and know that our goods come from sustainable sources from around the world. In addition, we source many of our product ranges within Suffolk and around the UK which helps support our own economy and in turn cuts down drastically on transportation. We pride ourselves on taking the time and effort to meet our suppliers and manufacturers to establish long term business relationships and also friendships.
